Bassist, composer and educator Scott Thompson started playing music at a young age, and picked up the bass when he was 12 years old. Scott began to play professionally in church, and clubs at the age of 14.
In high school, Scott was selected for All-State Honor Jazz Band his freshman year on lead trumpet, and his sophomore year on upright bass. He also was selected for the SFJAZZ All-Star High School Ensemble and performed with that group from 2002-2004.
Since then, Scott has performed, recorded and toured with many of the best musicians that the U.S., Brazil, and Europe have to offer. Some notable musicians that Scott has shared the stage or the recording booth include:
Chico Pinheiro, Helio Alves, Tiago Costa, Rafael Vernet, Toninho Horta, Dani and Deborah Gurgel, Jovino Santos Neto, Marcos Silva, Thiago Rabello, Kiko Freitas, Rafael Barata, Leny Andrade, Marcio Bahia, Edu Ribeiro, Terence Kelly and the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, The Hieroglyphics, E-40, Too $hort, B-Legit, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, and Thomas Pridgen.
Scott has toured internationally with Chico Pinheiro throughout the U.S., Canada, Belgium, Finland, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, and Brazil.
As an educator, Scott teaches private lessons, and has led jazz and Brazilian music ensembles, bass master classes, and rhythm section workshops at the California Jazz Conservatory, Lafayette Summer Music Workshop, Jazz Camp West, California Brazil Camp, Stanley Intermediate School, and Festival de Musica Instrumental de Teresina in Brazil.
